Larinioides sclopetarius (Clerck, 1757) – Bridge spider, Gray cross spider

Occurrence: Larinioides sclopetarius is common primarily in the moist meadows with tall grass, secondarily on bridges, buildings and fences. It is a very abundant species. It form colonies. Description: Its flattened abdomen is gray with dark marking. Adult females can grow to about 15 mm. There is a possible confusion with Larinioides ixobolus (Thorell, 1873). Period of occurrence: The adult spiders occur throughout the year. Web: Larinioides sclopetarius builds big, mostly frail web. Its hiding places are crevices. Signal thread is sometimes not significant. During the day we can sometimes find mostly only the juvenilles sitting on the web.
